“The Pied Piper of Tucson”

“The Pied Piper of Tucson” by Don Moser is a non-fiction and is about Charles Howard Schmid Jr. and the crimes he committed in the Tucson in the 1960’s. There are similarities between Smitty and Arnold Friend. They were both people I had no sympathy for. I certainly could not identify with either one of them. Arnold Friend might have been as evil as Smitty but his character was not developed in “Where Are You Going, W here have you Been?” The reason Friend was so terrifying had more to do with my imagination. I learned everything about Smitty through the detailed, non-fiction account of his crimes. “The Pied Piper of Tucson was a more hopeless story. It was just sad. Both Arnold Friend and Smitty were slightly older and smarter than the kids they hung out with. In both, kids were drawn towards evil and things they shouldn’t be because what is forbidden is always more desired.
